TechExec Special Edition: Who writes TechExec? And why should your friends subscribe to it?

Turbocharge your Tech Career!

(Total read time: 4 minutes)

Hey there,

This is a ✨special✨ edition of TechExec - the newsletter that turbocharges your growth to become a Tech Executive!

This edition is special because I am turning 30 today🥳. The Big Three-O is great in many ways because, by this point, most people are self-aware and know what they want in the future 🔮.

But it’s also a moment to think, reflect on life thus far, and be hard on yourself🤔.

One of the several things I think about these days is this newsletter. Fortunately, the newsletter has been a hit, and I have gotten some really positive feedback. At the same time, I also got requests to write about myself and my motivations for starting this newsletter. So here we go!

🕵️Who writes TechExec?

My name is Gaurav and this is how I look:

I live in Toronto, Canada, with my wife, a robotics engineer, and our 1-year-old daughter. My day job is as Director of Technical Marketing at Untether AI. It’s a Series B AI hardware startup. I also have a few side projects that include writing TechExec's insightful content and hosting a career-focused podcast called Breaking The Mold. I graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School. I also have a MS from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a B.Tech from NIT Trichy, India. I am named The Peak's Emerging Leaders in Canada 2023 and the 'Rising Star - Under 30' at the TU Automotive Awards 2020.

👀Why did Gaurav start TechExec?

Before TechExec, I used to write primarily on my personal website. There I cover topics such as getting an MBA, crosswords, and immigration to Canada. While having a personal blog is fun, it is not focused. I write about anything or everything I like, which is great for my friends and family. I wanted to write on topics where I have professional expertise as well as on topics on which I want to build credentials.

Additionally, a personal blog relies on having people visit your page and engage, which rarely happens organically. The best way to reach out to your audience directly is through an email newsletter.

I also like the consistency of the newsletters. I am forced to write every week, which doesn’t happen on a personal blog. The biggest game changer has been signing up for a platform, though. Beehiiv has been really convenient and abstracts away all of the backend processes. So what I need to do is just focus on writing the content and promoting it. If you feel inspired to launch your own newsletter, sign up for Beehiiv here!

🙋Why should my friends subscribe to it?

My target audience is those who are looking to turbocharge their tech career, grow their influence at work, maybe manage bigger teams, or join the C-suite one day. If any of that sounds like you, then you should subscribe.

Every Wednesday, TechExec delivers one business concept or story, one piece of lifestyle advice, and one tech explainer to your inbox. Within 6–8 minutes of reading, you will learn three new concepts that will help you do better in your personal and professional lives.

💡Where does Gaurav source his content from?

A lot of the business and life concepts, you will see in this newsletter are derived from the courses I have taken at Harvard. So in some ways, you will be getting a Harvard education for free. Isn’t that exciting?

How about the tech explainers? I have a solid tech background (especially AI). And I know you see a lot of "AI guys” on Twitter and LinkedIn, whose experiences with AI are basically writing chatGPT prompts. Unlike them, I have actually researched, built, and shipped AI products. I also have stints in sales, marketing, business strategy, partnerships, and product management. So the majority of the tech explainers will come from that.
